I-1.1—To be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education and training.
I-2.3
—To welcome all family members and encourage them to participate in the program. I-2.8
—To help family members enhance their understanding of their children and support the continuing development of their skills as parents. I-3A.2
—To share resources with co-workers, collaborating to ensure that the best possible early childhood care and education program is provided. I-1.6
—To use assessment instruments and strategies that are appropriate for the children to be assessed, that are used only for the purposes for which they were designed, and that have the potential to benefit children.I chose this because they are important to me as an educator. I believe we must be life long learners because the more we know, the better we can help our students, co-workers, parents, and the community. I want all of my parents to feel welcomed and participate in things going on in the classroom. My motto is two are better than one any day. I believe it is always good to collaborate with parents, co-workers, and the community to come up with great ideas. Also I believe that it is important to always assess your children in order for you to know what they have grasped from your lesson. This shows you what you need to go back and re-teach.
To welcome family members and encourage is an important aspect of working with children and families. In order to provide great service to families, we have to meet families where they are at. This means that we should be sensitive to their situations. Great work

ReplyDeleteYou certainly tuned into some very important ethics! I agree with you that building your classroom as a community by including parents, co-workers, and the students is a great way to become a better teacher! Assessment is always a tough on, particularly with younger students who are just developing, so I also agree with looking back on your lessons and self-assessing what worked well and what did not! There's no better judge on what you were able to teach than asking your students! :)
I too, think its important to share resources with coworkers. This is something I focused on when I began my job as area manager of childcare. I directly supervise 15 directors who at first seemed to compete with one another, it was my goal to have the directors see each other as a resource rather than a competitor.
ReplyDeleteI think your points on continuous collaboration are so important and true! It is also necessary for those of responsible for teaching children to remain knowledgeable and up to speed on our skills and craft. While some believe once you receive a degree that is the end of the work, the truth is entering the education field is a life long commitment and way of life. What I like about you highlighting ongoing collaboration is by talking to others half the work is taken out because friends and co workers can fill you in on trends too!
ReplyDeleteI think it’s great that you encourage parents to participate within the classroom. Parents who are involved in the education of their children lay an educational foundation for future success. Parents should take time to ask their children about their day and what new things they may have learned. This open communication with children fosters a healthy relationship between parent and child, while allowing parents to remain involved in the education of their children.
