Marian Wright Edelman
"I'm doing what I think I was put on this earth to do. And I'm really grateful to have something that I'm passionate about and that I think is profoundly important."
"I don't care what my children choose to do professionally, just as long as within their choices they understand they've got to give something back."
Lyndon B. Johnson
"In a land of great wealth, families must not live in hopeless poverty. In a land rich in harvest, children just must not go hungry. In a land of healing miracles, neighbors must not suffer and die untended. In a great land of learning and scholars, young people must be taught to read and write."
"The Great Society rests on abundance and liberty for all. It demands an end to poverty and racial injustice, to which we are totally committed in our time. But that is just the beginning."

Hi, Temeka!
ReplyDeleteI love the quote by Lyndon Johnson. Isn't it sad that so many decades later we, as a nation, still struggle with poverty, hungry children, sickness that could be healed with medicine that is not affordable, and youth and adults who can not read or write. I think if former President Johnson were still around, that he'd be appalled that almost 40 years later, the struggles have not gotten any better!
I also love the quote by Mark Twain. Silly fact, but in spite of this large world, I actually live about 20 minutes away from Mark Twain's grave site. His wife was a native of Elmira, NY, which is about 15 miles from where I live. They used to summer here, and many of his books, including Huckleberry Finn, and the Adventures of Tom Sawyer were inspired by and written in my area! :) His study where he wrote many of his novels is a huge tourist destination on the campus of our local Elmira College, as well as his burial site in Woodlawn Cemetery! It is a small world afterall! ;)
Good job!!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI love the quotes you have selected. The one that really impacted me was the last one by confucius. It is so true. When I think of reflection, I think of safety. I am an analytical thinker and spent most of my life cautiously stepping forward. It was the smart thing to do, but probably not the bravest. One of the hardest lessons I have learned in life is you have to take chances. You have to put your mind to something and just try it. Sometimes you succeed, and other times you don't. No matter what happens you always learn something valuable from it.
Hi Temeka, Marian Wright's Quote sticks out to me because I believe that children should have the choice to choose which career path that they would like to pursue. Very inspirational.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the quote from Marian Wright Edelman "I dont care what my children choose to do professionally, just as long as within their choices they understand they've got to give something back. I believe children should be free to choice their professional career within life. With that choice children should understand that it is important to give back when you have something to give. I believe those who give back will be blessed for their givings.
ReplyDeleteI love the quote about giving back from Marian Wright Edelman. I have three children of my own and my oldest has choosen to go into the human service field and "give back"!! My youngest is still deciding, but I have a strong suspicion that she will also choose a profession where she will give back. My son is very caring and gives back in other ways.
ReplyDeleteI also like the quote by Mark Twain as it is very fitting in my life right now. I am trying to rediscover who I am after divorce. This is a good reminder to live life to the fullest! Thanks!
